Knockout League is a boxing game developed by Grab Games and published by Oculus Studios. The game was released on April 2, 2018, for $29.99 and requires an Oculus headset to play.
In the game, you work your way through different boxers as you try and win tournaments and become the champion. You can choose to work your way through the game in campaign mode or you can play arcade mode which lets you fight different boxers for high scores and faster knockouts.
There are many moves to be performed with each fist (left, right, uppercut), elbows, knees, legs, headbutts, super combos that are unlocked by spending your points from fights, and even a special move that can be used when you have enough power in your meter. The campaign has different locations to fight in, such as a rooftop with fire escape ladders hanging out of the building, a warehouse with stacks of boxes stored inside, and an open street next to moving cars.
In terms of gameplay, it’s fairly simple but challenging enough for you to have fun and enjoy yourself all the way through the game. It does not take itself seriously which creates a very lighthearted environment while still being engaging and entertaining throughout.
Although there are only 2 game modes that are essentially just different difficulties I think it’s still worth owning because of how fun it is to play by yourself or with friends either on the couch or online. Knockout League has a wide variety of unlockables and items that keep you playing to get them all, from new gloves, shorts, boots, arenas, and even playable boxers along the way.
It’s a great game to show off what the Oculus Quest can do, even if you’re playing alone. I personally think it’s extremely worth it to buy this game for the amount of fun I’ve had with it since its release.
I give Knockout League for Oculus Quest an 8/10 rating because although it has only 1 game mode which is essentially 2 different difficulties, the gameplay is still very engaging and entertaining enough to make up for that.
There are boxing games on iOS and consoles but none come close to Knockout League in terms of having fun and enjoying yourself all throughout the game. It keeps you engaged by constantly introducing new challenges as well as ways to play that will keep you coming back for more. It
In the end, I think this is an easy sell for people who haven’t bought it yet because there is so much content for such a little price tag considering how fun it is. The only thing holding this game back is that some people might not have time to play more than one or two rounds at a time while others might just want something more serious in terms of gameplay.
Personally, I would give this game a 9/10. It’s very fun and addictive but it isn’t anything too special either beside the fact that it is for VR. However, I will say that if you like boxing or getting into a workout video game then this is the best thing to get and it’s worth every penny.
