As I entered the game, I was greeted with a space-like environment. The world looked peaceful and inviting.
After some time, however, the door in front of me was closed for good and my adventure began…
Let me present you Apex Construct (from this point on referred to as AC). AC is an easy game to pick up but hard to master. It offers four different weapons that can be upgraded continuously through XP points earned by killing enemies. There are five types of enemy units with their own distinctive style of behavior which makes them worthy opponents to fight against (and hence gives more depth to the game). You can use your shield to block incoming projectiles or fight hand-to-hand if you prefer. The game offers players three different skills that can be activated for a certain period of time, so you’ll never feel bored.
The game gives players numerous challenges with hidden secrets to unlock new weapons and loadouts along the way. Each level has its own individualized track which brings excitement throughout the game itself. You must free yourself from your pod in order to proceed but this is easier said than done as robots are out there waiting for you under all circumstances. As more challenges are unlocked, the player gets more experience points which give access to new armor pieces, skins, weapons etc.
This brings me to my favorite part of AC, the VR mode! For those who don’t know what VR is or have not experienced it yet, let me get you up to speed. VR is Virtual Reality that replicates the physical presence of an immersively real environment, often with complete 360° vision and sound to give you a truly immersive experience. It makes you feel like you are really inside the game instead of just sitting in front of your TV or PC. This mode is what gives AC that extra flavor because you can literally sit back and immerse yourself into the world that has been created for you by observing every small detail while solving puzzles, working out tactically complicated situations etc.
The graphics are one thing but if there wasn’t any music playing in the background..oh boy! I definitely recommend listening to all of the tracks while playing in VR mode because the OST (Original Sound Track) is absolutely amazing.
As for cons in AC, there are none! I played so many games in my lifetime but this one actually kept me engaged and entertained all the way through to the end. This game will not disappoint you unless you expect too much from it keeping in mind that it’s a non-AAA title with a small budget behind its production.
Verdict
To sum up briefly, I’d say that this game is very underrated and should be experienced by everyone out there who has access to VR technology or wants to try it out! The game was developed by Fast Travel Games AB which consists of various talented individuals who have given their heart and soul into creating something really original and true to the gaming industry.
Update: I changed my score from 9 out of 10 to 7 out of 10 due to repetitiveness in gameplay after completing the game.
